Personal Theortical Foundations

Every student is an individual, therefore their learning style is different from the student next to them. Each student learns differently, so me saying that every student learns the same way is wrong. When I was in middle school I had a teacher that would teach the same exact way every time, for every lesson, for every day. The way that she taught was we listen to her lecture, take notes, do homework, then take on every Thursday. That's it. I hated that class, and honestly I don't remember a single thing from that class. I believe that I didn't learn anything is because of the way that she was teaching, and the way that I learn. I am not saying that she didn't know what she was talking about, I just didn't take in any of the information that she was giving. So, when I decided that I wanted to be a teacher I promised that I would never teach that way. This all goes back to students having different learning styles. To be able to actually teach every single one of your students and them to receive that information, you need to be able to incorporate all of the different learning styles.

When reading, Integrated Instructioin:Multiple Intellegencies and Technologies I found what Ian McCoog stated about teachers and technology very helpful. McCoog said, "Technology has changed the appearence and operation of modern society. Our world has become digital, and our classroom are steadily following suit. The teacher remains the focal point, but new resources are adapting how instruction occurs." This made something in my brain click. The teeachers are still in front of the students giving them the information needed, but the way the teachers are giving the information has changed along with the changing techonlogy. In the world we live in, technology is rapidly expanding and morphing into something more; classrooms are working to keep up with the changing technology. The technology that teachers are using in classrooms can aid in the problem of students and different learning styles.

I know that schools are using standardized testing to bring to light a student's learning style and the information that needs to be taught. I was never a big fan of taking the test when I was the student, but now that I see the reasons for taking them, I am a little more welcoming to them. When I get my classroom I want to be able to use those standardized tests to evaluate my students, and hopefully came use them for individual teaching.

As a teacher I want to be able to use all of the possible resources avaliable to help my students; technology is one of them. Whether the technology being a smart board for presenting the lesson to the class or it bing a math game online that helps that individual student with their own unique problems. Like I said above, each student is unique, therefore the way they learn is unique; technology will help me help them.

My Role

In the technological advanced world that I live in, I have become a part of the Digital Generation. Technology plays a vital role in my life, from homework to entertainment and getting directions or creating music, I use it every single day. Like what the narrator of “The Digital Generation Project” said, “Technology is more than a tool, it is a essential component of everyday life that frames their world view.” That statement right there explains how my outlook on technology today is. I am part of this Digital Generation, and everyday holds some excitement. For the portraits, the ones that are most realated to me are: Luis: “I really enjoy technology, because it’s a better way to find out information and use that information for my community, not just for myself.” Sam: “My method of learning new software is really trial and error. If something doesn’t work out, just go back and try something else.” Justin: “What I’m learning out of school I learn at a much faster pace and more effectively than what I usually learn in school.” Virgina: “I’m teaching young elementary kids how to stay safe online.” I am going to school to become an elementary teacher, makes Virgina’s portrait a have to because I want my students to be able to explore the internet and the technology world around them but also I want them to be safe doing so. I relate to Sam and Justin just by the way that I learn and recive information. Luis’s portrait is my entertainment side of me. When I was in elementary school, the method for teching was on a good ol’ fashioned chalk board and over head. When I went to middle school, we began to learn a little more on a computer. By the time that I was in my senior year of high school, teachers were using smart tables, ipads, and smart boards to teach us. I loved that way of teaching more just by the fact that learning was more interesting and class wasn’t too boring. When I have my own classroom, I want to teach using the latest technology so that my students will be more interested. Even a grown adult doesn’t like sitting in a meeting when the person is just talking and using a chalkboard. Technology is just more fun, and students and children pick up on that. I am a part of the Digital Generation, and I am so happy and excited that I am.

Brothers Till The End

People that take a first glance at me and make some guesses at to what my favorite passtime is. Almost never they will guess that I am a xbox addict. My new game addiction is Gear of War 3. My husband, Alex, and I are playing through the co-op campain. He, of course, is ALWAYS the first player; that means that he plays as Marcus Fenix. Player two is yours truely, and I play as Dominic Santiago. In the Gears of War 3, the campain is seperated into 5 acts, each act has 5 chapters. We are in the last chapter of act 3, and we know that something bad is going to happen. We are back in Dom’s newly deceased wife’s hometown. Dom is seriously going through a emotional break down when he visits his wife’s family grave and begings praying to her. Near the end of the chapter, we are surrounded by locust and lambient a bomb goes off and separates Dom from the rest of the Delta Force Team. Let me just tell you all nonvideogamers, video games are an art form that needs to be recognized more. There was one clear solution to end the act, going out with a bigger bang. Dom sees a locust vehicle, jumps in, tells his teamates to jump and good luck, then puts his foot to the gas. Boom. I look over to my husband, we were both speechless and could not just believe that Gears lost Dominic Santiago. Alex put his head in his hands, silently grieving, I said that I was done for the night. Now all of you that are reading this and thinking, “this lady is nuts” or “it’s just a silly video game,” I will grant you amnesty just this once. Video games are like movies, they are made for entertainment and to make people feel something for someone else on the big screen in a sitation that does or does not obtain to reality. The difference is, video games are made to put ordinary people into those situations by adding a controller. We are able to jump right into that screen and play as that person. I personally, feel acomplished when I finish a game. When you play a video game you become that character, I was Dominic Santiago, and Alex was Marcus Fenix, and we had just lost our friend. MY husband has been playing xbox for a longer time than me (I blame him for my addiction) he had been playing this game for 8 years now. We both knew that it was a mistake to play through a chapter titled, “Brothers to the End.”
